Hi, I’m Dr. Henderson. I’m the dentist here at Smiles of Kiln Creek, and I’m here to educate and talk to you a little bit about why we might recommend a crown on one of your teeth when you come and see us.
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is an all ceramic or all porcelain, sometimes they're made of gold or different kinds of metals, but it's a prosthetic restoration that we use to encompass the entire surface of the tooth.
How is a dental crown placed?
We take a little bit of tooth structure from around all sides of the tooth and a little bit from the top. So when we get the crown, that is made by an external dental lab, they are able to fit that crown right on top of your tooth, so it fits perfectly in line with your bite and the way the rest of your teeth are already in your mouth.
